What to include in a website brief
A clear brief helps an agency understand your project quickly and give you a realistic plan. It does not need to be long. These six points cover what matters most.
The goal
Write one sentence about what the site must achieve, such as more enquiries, online bookings or fewer support emails. Every other decision becomes easier when the goal is clear.
Your audience
Describe who visits the site, what they are trying to do and what usually stops them.
Pages and content
List the pages you expect to need, and say who will provide the text and images. Content is the most common cause of delay, so it helps to decide this early.
Features and integrations
Note anything the site must connect to or do, such as forms, payments, booking, a CRM or email tools.
Timeline and budget
Even a rough range helps. An honest range lets the agency propose a scope that fits instead of guessing.
Examples you like
Share links to sites you admire and say what you like about them. It is often the fastest way to communicate taste.
